Marechal Cunha Machado/São Luís International Airport, formerly known as Tirirical Airport, serves as the main airport for the city of São Luís, Brazil. The airport obtained its current name on October 17, 1985, in honor of Marechal Cunha Machado.

In the early days, São Luís International Airport had a grass track measuring one thousand meters (runway 09/27) that primarily served as an airbase for the Brazilian Army. The name of the airport pays homage to Air Marshal and Captain Lieutenant Commander Hugo da Cunha Machado, who was born in Maranhão. To reflect its increased international status, the airport was upgraded to the international category in October 2004.

However, on April 7, 2021, CCR, a renowned infrastructure company, secured a 30-year concession to operate and develop São Luís International Airport. This transition to CCR’s management represents a new chapter for the airport, with the aim of enhancing its infrastructure, services, and overall efficiency.

Campo Grande International Airport, also known as Antônio João Airport due to its location in the Antônio João neighborhood, serves as the primary airport for Campo Grande, Brazil.

The airport is jointly operated by Infraero, the Brazilian government agency responsible for airport administration, and AENA, a Spanish company specializing in airport management and operations. However, on August 18, 2022, a new chapter began for Campo Grande International Airport as the consortium AENA, known for its expertise in airport operations, secured a 30-year concession to operate the airport.

A noteworthy aspect of Campo Grande International Airport is that some of its facilities are shared with the Campo Grande Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force.

The airport has a rich history, with its operations dating back to the 1930s when it initially served as a military airfield. In the 1950s, commercial flights began operating from the airport, marking its transition into a civilian aviation facility. The passenger terminal, which has played a pivotal role in accommodating travelers, was officially dedicated in 1964.

Since 1975, Infraero has been responsible for operating Campo Grande International Airport, overseeing its administration and development. Over the years, the airport has undergone significant expansions and upgrades. In the 1980s, the passenger terminal was enlarged from 1,500m² to 5,000m² to accommodate the growing number of passengers. Subsequently, in 1998, another expansion took place, increasing the terminal’s size to 6,082m², further enhancing the airport’s capacity and passenger experience.

However, a pivotal change occurred on March 15, 2019, as AENA, a renowned Spanish company specializing in airport operations, secured a 30-year concession to operate Presidente Castro Pinto International Airport. This transition to AENA’s management signified a new phase for the airport, bringing with it the expectation of enhanced services, infrastructure development, and increased operational efficiency.
