Ian Fleming International Airport Jet Charters

Ian Fleming International Airport
Name:Ian Fleming International Airport
ICAO: MKBS
IATA:OCJ
City:Boscobel
Country:Jamaica
Address:C24J+2P3, Boscobel, Jamaica

Ian Fleming International Airport (IFIA), formerly known as Boscobel Aerodrome, is situated in Boscobel, Saint Mary Parish, Jamaica, just 10 km east of Ocho Rios in the northern part of the island. This airport, named after Ian Fleming, the renowned author of the James Bond novels, including the famous Goldeneye estate in St. Mary parish, serves as a connection hub for the United States and other Caribbean islands.

Historically, Boscobel Aerodrome was a relatively small facility, accommodating around 20,000 passengers annually and offering scheduled passenger services through local carriers such as Air Jamaica Express, Jamaica Air Service, Jamaica Air Shuttle, and Trans Jamaican Airlines, utilizing prop and turboprop aircraft like the Beechcraft 99 and Dornier 228.

In 2009, significant renovations and construction work began at the airport. On January 12, 2011, the newly improved airport was officially opened by Prime Minister Bruce Golding. The primary goal of the airport was to cater to small jets, handle international arrivals, and attract high-end tourism to Jamaica’s north coast, including Ocho Rios, Oracabessa, and Port Antonio.

Ian Fleming International Airport welcomed its first international flight in May 2010, eight months before its official opening, with singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett being the first international passenger. Despite some controversy over the renaming of the airport, Prime Minister Golding emphasized the significant impact Ian Fleming had on Jamaica’s global image as the author of the James Bond novels. The airport’s facilities include a modern terminal, customs and immigration services, passenger amenities, and the capability to handle aircraft like the Cessna Citation Excel.

In March 2022, American Airlines announced plans to initiate non-stop flights from Miami to Ian Fleming International Airport, marking the first flights to the airport by a US airline. However, this route has been postponed until further notice due to additional air navigation aids requested by American Airlines.

Name:Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport
ICAO: FIMP
IATA:MRU
City:Mauritius
Country:Mauritius
Address:Plaine Magnien MU, 51520, Mauritius

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is the primary gateway to the island nation of Mauritius, located at Plaine Magnien, approximately 48 km southeast of the capital city, Port Louis. Formerly known as Plaisance Airport, it serves as a crucial transportation hub for travelers coming to and from various destinations in Africa, Asia, and Europe. The airport is home to Air Mauritius, the national airline of Mauritius, and is owned and operated by Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML), with the government of Mauritius as the major shareholder. The airport’s name honors Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the first Prime Minister of Mauritius.

Historically, the airport’s origins trace back to World War II when it was established as a Royal Naval Air Station for the defense of Mauritius. After the war, it transitioned to civilian operations, providing a significant boost to the Mauritian economy. The airport gradually expanded, and the first flight to Rodrigues Island took place in 1972, signaling the growth of regional air travel. Infrastructure improvements in 1986 included a new terminal with airbridges, a car park, and customs services for international routes, accommodating larger aircraft.

In 2013, a new passenger terminal was inaugurated, mirroring the design of the “Traveller’s palm,” a native tropical plant. The terminal, which cost $306 million, reflects the “Maurice Ile Durable” concept, focusing on environmental and ecological considerations such as solar energy utilization, rainwater harvesting, integrating nature into the building, and thermo-insulated facades to reduce heat gain. With a capacity of 4 million passengers, the terminal features airbridges for boarding, check-in desks, immigration counters, and baggage carousels, making it a modern and sustainable addition to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport’s infrastructure.

Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport, now known as Plaine Corail Airport, is a vital air transportation hub located near Plaine Corail on Rodrigues, an island dependency of Mauritius. Rodrigues, often called the “10th District” of Mauritius, relies on this airport for essential travel connections to both the mainland of Mauritius and other nearby destinations. The airport’s name change in 2017, from Sir Gaëtan Duval to Plaine Corail Airport, marked a significant shift in its identity and recognition.

In 2015, Air Austral initiated seasonal flights to Reunion’s Pierrefonds airport, enhancing connectivity to nearby Reunion Island. This service later transitioned to Saint-Denis de la Réunion in 2022, further bolstering the airport’s regional significance and its role in facilitating travel to and from Rodrigues.

Princess Juliana International Airport Jet Charters

Princess Juliana International Airport
Name:Princess Juliana International Airport
ICAO: TNCM
IATA:SXM
City:Sint Maarten
Country:Sint Maarten
Address:Airport Rd, Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten

Princess Juliana International Airport (IATA: SXM, ICAO: TNCM) stands as the primary gateway to the captivating Caribbean island of Saint Martin, specifically located on the Dutch side within the country of Sint Maarten. Named after Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, who visited the island in 1944 when she was the heir presumptive, this airport has a unique feature – incredibly low-altitude landing approaches due to its proximity to Maho Beach. It serves as a hub for Winair and plays a crucial role in connecting the smaller Leeward Islands, including Anguilla, Saba, Saint Barthélemy, and Sint Eustatius.

The history of Princess Juliana International Airport dates back to World War II when it began as a US military airstrip in 1942. Commercial flights commenced in 1943, marking the airport’s transition to a civilian facility. In 1964, the airport underwent a significant renovation and relocation, complete with a new terminal building and control tower. Subsequent upgrades in 1985 and 2001 kept the airport modern and efficient. Moreover, the airport embarked on a comprehensive modernization plan in 1997, comprising multiple phases to accommodate the growing passenger traffic.

Phase I, completed in 2001, involved runway improvements and the construction of a new apron, among other enhancements. Phase II saw the introduction of a radar facility, a new air traffic control tower, and the construction of a modern terminal capable of handling 2.5 million passengers annually. The new terminal, boasting four jetways for large aircraft like the Boeing 747, opened its doors in late October 2006. Phase III of the masterplan, which includes an extended terminal building and a full parallel taxiway system, may be implemented in the future. Additionally, in 2007, the Franco-Dutch treaty on Saint Martin border controls was ratified, allowing for joint border controls on “risk flights.”

In September 2017, Princess Juliana International Airport faced a significant challenge when Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 hurricane, struck the island, causing substantial damage to the airport’s infrastructure. However, the airport demonstrated resilience, reopening on October 10, 2017, with temporary facilities while repair work continued. Today, it continues to serve as a vital link to this stunning Caribbean destination.

Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport Jet Charters

Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport
Name:Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport
ICAO: TUPJ
IATA:EIS
City:Beef Island
Country:British Virgin Islands
Address:Beef Island, British Virgin Islands

Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, formerly known as Beef Island Airport, stands as the primary gateway to the enchanting British Virgin Islands (BVI), a captivating British overseas territory nestled in the Caribbean. This vital airport serves as a linchpin connecting travelers to various islands within the BVI archipelago, enhancing accessibility to this tropical paradise. Additionally, it acts as a key portal for inter-Caribbean voyagers heading towards the nearby U.S. Virgin Islands. Beef Island Airport frequently welcomes travelers who intend to explore the smaller British Virgin Islands by ferry, establishing itself as a pivotal entry point to the region. It is situated on Beef Island, a charming islet linked to the main island of Tortola by the iconic Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

The airport underwent a remarkable $55 million renovation in 2004, representing the largest capital project ever undertaken in the British Virgin Islands at that time. This extensive endeavor involved the expansion of the runway, enabling larger aircraft to operate seamlessly at the airfield. Notable features of this renovation encompassed the construction of a new 46,000 square-foot terminal building, an expanded flight apron, a modern control tower, and a 3,700-foot runway extension. Additionally, a new airport road was developed, complemented by an expanded parking area capable of accommodating 150 vehicles. Travelers should be aware of a $20 departure tax applicable to those over the age of five.

In 2016, the government announced ambitious plans to further expand the airport by increasing the runway’s length by 2,504 feet. This expansion aimed to facilitate the operation of mainline jetliner types like the Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320, enabling direct flights to and from the continental United States and Latin America. However, despite initial reports suggesting the United Kingdom’s approval of the financial borrowing for the project, later indications hinted at withheld consent due to concerns about its financial viability. Ultimately, negotiations with the preferred bidder, China Communications Construction Company, were initiated, but by June 2017, the proposed runway expansion was shelved.

Nevertheless, in 2019, Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport made history by welcoming the largest aircraft ever operated into the airport, a Titan Airways-operated Airbus A318-100 jet, reflecting its continuous efforts to improve and accommodate larger aircraft.

Virgin Gorda Airport Jet Charters

Virgin Gorda Airport
Name:Virgin Gorda Airport
ICAO: TUPW
IATA:VIJ
City:Virgin Gorda
Country:British Virgin Islands
Address:CHWC+VW8, Spanish Town, British Virgin Islands

Virgin Gorda Airport, situated on the picturesque island of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, is an essential transportation hub for travelers exploring this idyllic Caribbean destination, which is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom.

In the past, the airport has witnessed the operations of various airlines, contributing to its rich history. American Eagle, operated by Executive Airlines on behalf of American Airlines, provided regional air service from San Juan (SJU) using CASA 212-200 twin turboprop aircraft. Sunaire, flying as Eastern Express, served Virgin Gorda through a code-sharing agreement with Eastern Airlines, primarily connecting the airport to San Juan and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These flights were facilitated by de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter STOL (short take-off and landing) turboprop aircraft. Other airlines like Crown Air/Dorado Wings and Virgin Island Airways also employed Twin Otter aircraft for commuter flights between the airport and San Juan. Air BVI, based in neighboring Tortola, operated Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander twin-prop aircraft on nonstop routes to San Juan and nearby Tortola. Vieques Air Link and Air Sunshine also played a role in connecting Virgin Gorda with their respective aircraft.

Currently, Island Birds Air Charter, operating since the year 2000, provides on-demand, non-scheduled charter services to the airport. The airport’s ownership and operation were transferred to the Government of the VI (UK) in 2005, following its purchase from Little Dix Bay Resort for $2.9 million. The airport’s runway remains unpaved, consisting of sand and gravel. In 2010, the airport underwent significant construction work, resulting in its closure for several months. It reopened in December 2010, albeit with restrictions and limitations imposed by the ASSI regulatory agency. Presently, only a select few airlines approved by both ASSI and the FAA are permitted to operate at Virgin Gorda Airport.

Gustaf III Airport Jet Charters

Gustaf III Airport
Name:Gustaf III Airport
ICAO: TFFJ
IATA:SBH
City:St. Jean
Country:Saint Barthélemy
Address:97133, St. Barthélemy

Gustaf III Airport, commonly known as Saint Barthélemy Airport or Rémy de Haenen Airport, is a public airport nestled in the charming village of St. Jean on the picturesque Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy. This airport is renowned for its unique and challenging features, making it stand out in the world of aviation.

Due to its exceptionally short runway, close proximity to a nearby road, and the requirement for a special license to land here, Gustaf III Airport has earned a reputation as one of the world’s most dangerous airports. It was ranked third on The History Channel’s list of the most extreme airports. The airport’s unconventional layout and thrilling approach make it a notable destination for aviation enthusiasts.

The airport and the island’s main town, Gustavia, are both named after King Gustav III of Sweden, who played a pivotal role in Sweden’s acquisition of the island from France in 1784. In 1984, the terminal building was inaugurated by the Swedish Minister of Communications, Hans Gustafsson. In 2015, the airport was officially named Aéroport de Saint-Barthélemy-Rémy-de-Haenen, in honor of Rémy de Haenen, an aviation pioneer and former mayor of Saint Barthélemy. Despite its challenges, the airport serves as an essential gateway for the island, handling small regional commercial aircraft, charters, and unique aircraft like the de Havilland Dash 7, which is the largest plane allowed to operate at this airport. The thrilling descent and departure experiences, with aircraft flying low over hilltops and sunbathers on the beach, make Gustaf III Airport a fascinating destination for travelers and aviation enthusiasts alike. Commonly seen aircraft at the airport include the Pilatus PC-12, Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, and Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander, all contributing to the airport’s unique charm.

Punta Cana International Airport Jet Charters

Punta Cana International Airport
Name:Punta Cana International Airport
ICAO: MDPC
IATA:PUJ
City:Punta Cana
Country:Dominican Republic
Address:Carr. Aeropuerto, Punta Cana 23000, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana International Airport, located in the eastern Dominican Republic, stands as a remarkable testament to innovation and growth in the world of aviation. Built and owned by Grupo Punta Cana, it opened its doors in December 1983, becoming the first privately owned international airport globally. Over the years, it has evolved into the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic and the second-busiest in the Caribbean, serving as a gateway to paradise for millions of travelers. In 2022, it saw over 8.3 million passengers and nearly 50,000 commercial aircraft operations, while in 2023, the airport accounted for a staggering 60% of all air arrivals in the Dominican Republic, connecting travelers to 90 airports in 26 countries.

The airport’s history traces back to 1971 when Grupo Puntacana established the first hotel in the region, known as “Punta Cana Club,” alongside a rudimentary airstrip. With no terminals or paved runways, this was merely a flat piece of land. As the area grew in popularity among tourists, a road connection was established to the capital of La Altagracia Province, Higüey, making it more accessible. However, travelers still had to pass through Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo and take a short flight in small planes to reach Punta Cana. Recognizing the need for a true airport, Grupo PuntaCana embarked on the journey to build one.

Punta Cana International Airport’s construction began in 1982, with architect Oscar Imbert envisioning open-air terminals with palm-frond roofs and architecture inspired by Native American Tainos and Arawak structures. The design aimed to harness the coastal breezes from the Caribbean Sea for cooling, eliminating the need for costly air conditioning. Despite the airport’s remote location, construction persisted, and it finally opened on December 17, 1983. Over time, the runway expanded, and the airport introduced long-haul flights, fostering tremendous growth. In 2011, a second runway was unveiled, making it the first Caribbean airport with two runways exceeding 10,000 feet in length. Subsequent expansions, including the opening of Terminal B in 2014 and a VIP lounge with a pool in 2017, have propelled Punta Cana International Airport into a world-class travel hub.

The modernization efforts extend beyond the airport itself, with an improved expressway connecting Santo Domingo to the airport. This route provides stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and allows for efficient access to the city. Las Américas International Airport continues to be a vital player in the region’s aviation landscape, supporting both passenger and cargo transportation needs, and serving as a key economic driver for the Dominican Republic.

La Isabela International Airport, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, began operations on February 23, 2006, taking over from Herrera International Airport. The inaugural flight to touch down at this newly opened airport was a Caribair flight arriving from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, marking the beginning of its service.

This airport primarily caters to the Dominican Republic’s domestic flight needs while also facilitating international connections to other Caribbean destinations. Notably, it serves as a significant hub for Dominican airlines specializing in smaller aircraft. With over 40 hangars, La Isabela Airport boasts the highest number of hangars for Dominican-based carriers in the country. This infrastructure supports the maintenance and operations of various airlines that rely on small planes for their routes.

An interesting aspect of La Isabela International Airport is its unique role in serving domestic destinations within the Dominican Republic. As of June 2020, it stands as the sole airport in Santo Domingo providing domestic air services. This sets it apart from Las Americas International Airport, the larger and more well-known airport in Santo Domingo, which primarily handles international flights. La Isabela Airport plays a vital role in connecting the country’s various regions, facilitating both domestic and international travel, and contributing to the overall accessibility and connectivity of the Dominican Republic.

Over the years, several airlines have operated scheduled passenger jet services to St. Croix, emphasizing its role as a key transportation hub in the Caribbean. American Airlines, in particular, has maintained a presence on the island, connecting it with various destinations. Recent developments, such as the Antonov An-124 landing in 2018 to deliver hurricane recovery supplies, underscore the airport’s significance in aiding disaster relief efforts in the region.

In line with its commitment to modernization and improvement, Henry E. Rohlsen Airport embarked on a multi-phase terminal expansion and renovation project. The first phase, estimated at $8.6 million, was funded by a $7 million grant from the US Department of Commerce-Economic Development Administration, with a local match of $1.6 million from the VI Port Authority. This phase included enhancing lounge space, upgrading passenger facilities, and more. Further phases aimed to add jet bridges, expand concession and retail areas, and enhance passenger flow. The project, estimated at $140 million in total, signifies Henry E. Rohlsen Airport’s dedication to providing passengers with a world-class travel experience while bolstering the island’s connectivity and tourism prospects.
