The Belmont Stakes is an annual horse race that takes place in Elmont, New York. It is one of the three races that make up the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, along with the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. The Belmont Stakes is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbreds, and is run over a distance of one and a half miles (about 2,400 meters). The race is held each year in June and is a major highlight of the New York sporting calendar. In addition to the main race, the Belmont Stakes also includes a variety of other races and events, such as food and drink festivals, fashion shows, and live music performances.
