Borg El Arab International Airport, situated approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Alexandria, Egypt, is a crucial international gateway, serving not only the vibrant city of Alexandria but also the neighboring regions of the Nile Delta. In June 2009, the Egyptian government unveiled ambitious plans to extend Alexandria with a new city known as “New Alexandria,” encompassing 390 acres to the west of the old city. Initially known as Mubarak International Airport, the airport was officially opened by former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on May 25, 2010. However, following the events of 2011, which resulted in the removal of Mubarak from power and a subsequent court ruling to rename all establishments associated with his name, the airport was rebranded as Sohag International Airport.

Sohag International Airport is fully equipped to handle approximately 3.5 million passengers annually, boasting an impressive passenger terminal adorned with the unique Pharaonic motif.
